New Codex Guidelines on Cashew Kernel Trade Backed by India

The Codex Alimentarius Commission has granted approval to India’s proposal for a dedicated standard on cashew kernel (giri) trade. The measure is expected to promote fair competition, reduce technical trade barriers, and open new markets for Indian exporters.

By establishing a globally recognised quality framework, the standard will help align production practices, enhance traceability and assure buyers of consistent safety and quality.

Officials from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India presented the proposal, highlighting the importance of cashew exports to the national economy and the need for harmonised specifications.

Stakeholders anticipate that the new guideline will boost India’s market share in the rapidly expanding global cashew industry.
