Ministry of Social Justice Launches Nationwide Nasha Mukt Bharat Initiative

NEW DELHI, August 26 – The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has officially inaugurated the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, a country‑wide effort to eradicate drug abuse. The program, which began on August 6, introduced helpline 14446 and a pledge for citizens to say "no" to drugs, spread awareness and reinforce the vision of a drug‑free India.

Initially launched on August 15, 2020 in 272 districts, the campaign was expanded in August 2023 to cover every district, with special focus on schools, colleges and universities. According to a written response by State Minister B. L. Verma in the Rajya Sabha, the drive has already reached more than 29.05 crore people, including over 11.05 crore youth and 7.81 crore women.

The ministry highlighted the importance of understanding terms such as intoxication, overdose, withdrawal, harmful use and dependence, urging the public to use the 14446 helpline for support and to become active participants in building a healthier, drug‑free nation.
