Medical Student Priyanka Declared Brain‑Dead Following Mall Accident

A tragic road‑traffic accident at a Rajahmundry mall has left a postgraduate medical student, Dr. Priyanka, in a vegetative state. On the night of August 3, while exiting the complex, Priyanka’s scooter was hit by a car driven by two intoxicated youths.

Emergency services rushed her to a nearby hospital, after which she was transferred to a larger facility in Hyderabad. There, physicians placed her on life‑support and later announced that she was brain‑dead.

Police investigations revealed that the drivers, Suravarapu Dasvant and Andrew Joseph Edwards, had engaged in a scuffle with mall staff before attempting to flee. Their reckless maneuver caused the car to ram the scooter three times at the mall gate, crushing the vehicle and injuring Priyanka.

The senior superintendent of police confirmed that the case has been recorded under Section 110 of the IPC, emphasizing that the charge reflects an attempt to cause death without pre‑meditation. The accused have been arrested, and the department pledged to pursue the maximum penalty allowed by law.
