In a powerful address at Nagpur’s ‘Oncology Beyond Borders’ conference, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis warned that the dramatic increase in cancer incidences over the last ten years demands urgent action beyond mere treatment.
Organized by the National Cancer Institute, the event brings together global experts to discuss cutting-edge strategies. Fadnavis pointed out that while India’s healthcare sector has advanced impressively, cancer continues to loom large as a public health crisis.
‘Diseases ignore boundaries and social divides; it’s our duty to unite, share ideas, and find solutions that cross all limits,’ he declared. The CM lauded such platforms for enabling cooperation and innovation in oncology.
Highlighting the institute’s contributions, Fadnavis noted how it provides state-of-the-art care attracting international patients. He drew attention to the Maha Cancer Foundation’s ambitious plan for a hub-and-spoke network across Maharashtra, guaranteeing equitable access to superior cancer services.
Advocating for a tech-driven future, Fadnavis called for ramping up research in AI, biotech, and medical tech to sharpen detection capabilities and refine therapies. Survival rates can soar with prompt intervention, he emphasized, painting a hopeful picture of reduced cancer’s devastating impact through proactive measures.
