In anticipation of a possible surge in swine flu cases, the health ministry has ordered all medical college hospitals, including RIMS in Ranchi, to reserve an additional ten beds each. Hospitals must also maintain adequate oxygen cylinders, stock essential drugs, and have functional diagnostic facilities for H1N1 testing. ICU and HDU units are to be on standby, and a trained paramedical team should be available around the clock. Management of each hospital received clear instructions that resource shortages should not hinder patient care.
