A complaint arose on July 12 when passengers on train number 12002, the Delhi‑Bhopal Shatabdi, found that the breakfast bread they were handed out carried an expiry date that had already passed. Seventy‑four passengers were given the bread, which bore the date July 10, 2026. Following video evidence posted online, IRCTC announced that it had treated the matter with the utmost seriousness. The catering firm was slapped with a large monetary penalty, the staff responsible were immediately removed, and a directive was issued for thorough pre‑service checks of all packaged food items. No confirmed health incidents have been reported to date.
