Patel urged the Supreme Court and regulatory bodies to tighten the gap between the maximum retail price (MRP), price‑to‑stockist (PTS) and price‑to‑retailer (PTR). Under current rules, retail margins are capped at 20 percent and wholesale margins at 10 percent, but real‑world transactions show a 27‑rupee MRP drug being sold for 27,000 rupees. He called for the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) to set a uniform MRP and enforce a law that eliminates the disparity between PTS, PTR and MRP. Without such controls, the system allows manufacturers and distributors to pocket huge sums while the end‑consumer bears the brunt.
