Impersonating Oncologist: Scam Victims in Kolkata Region
Residents of the Kolkata outskirts have been warned after a self‑styled oncologist was arrested for running an illegal clinic in Sonarpur. The individual, known to locals as Vishwaroop Acharya, allegedly used forged medical degrees to lure patients seeking cancer treatment.
Authorities say Acharya collected 800 rupees per visit and operated from a residence in the Ghasiyara locality. The property owner, unsettled by the sudden influx of patients, reported the matter to police, who subsequently dispatched a fake patient to verify the doctor's credentials.
The undercover visit uncovered falsified MBBS and FRCS documents, leading to an immediate raid and the suspect's detention. The case has been forwarded to the Barui Pur Sub‑Divisional Court, where investigators are now focusing on the supply chain of the bogus certificates and any possible links to larger criminal syndicates.
