Health Officials Warn of Growing Viral Fever and Dengue Threat in Chennai

Medical teams monitoring the public health situation in Chennai have sounded an alarm over a rapid increase in viral fever and dengue cases. Over the last ten days, more than 2,000 people have presented with fever symptoms, and laboratory confirmation has identified 140 dengue infections. August’s data showed approximately 4,500 fever incidents, with 160 confirmed dengue cases, a volume now rivaling the previous month's overall tally. Areas such as Adyar, Anna Nagar and Velachery report the highest patient loads. The city is also battling a spread of respiratory viruses, including Influenza A, rhinovirus and RSV, which can aggravate the clinical scenario. Doctors emphasize prompt consultation with qualified physicians, thorough testing, and avoidance of self‑prescribed drugs. Preventive measures focus on eliminating breeding sites by covering water containers, removing debris, cleaning roofs and construction sites, and using mosquito nets, repellents, and protective wear during peak biting periods.
