Health Ministry Orders Intensive Fogging and Larva Control at Temporary Barracks Ahead of National Unity Day

Gandhinagar, Oct 6 – In response to a cluster of dengue infections among personnel gathered for the National Unity Day parade, Gujarat's health ministry announced a comprehensive plan to intensify fogging, monitor fevers and eradicate mosquito larvae in temporary housing zones.

Since 21 September, soldiers from the BSF, CRPF and ITBP have been stationed in government‑provided lodging in sectors 28 and 29. Poor drainage and water‑logging in the newly constructed shelters created ideal conditions for Aedes mosquitoes, leading to the current outbreak.

Official figures released on 2 October indicate 24 confirmed dengue cases, with additional troops being watched for fever and body‑ache symptoms. All patients are being treated at Gandhinagar Civil Hospital, where their condition is reported as stable, and an epidemiological review is ongoing.

The minister mandated that each residential block host four dedicated health workers, that fogging be conducted at "battle‑field" intensity, and that larvicidal agents be sprayed daily. Any standing water within the premises must be drained without delay.

The announcement also reaffirmed that no new Chandipura virus cases have emerged in the last sixty days, highlighting the success of prior preventive actions.

Data for the fiscal year 2026 reveals a 39.6% fall in malaria cases and a 20.6% decline in dengue incidents relative to 2025, a result of continuous surveillance, community outreach and rapid diagnostic facilities operating in 42 medical‑college hospitals. More than 1.39 crore blood samples have been examined, uncovering 1,401 malaria positives.
