Health department updates Chandipura figures: 39 confirmed, 25 fatalities in Gujarat

The Gujarat health department has published the latest statistics for the Chandipura virus outbreak covering the period from June 30 to August 10. Out of 225 suspected patients, 39 have been laboratory‑confirmed, and 25 of those confirmed cases have died.

The data show that 212 of the suspected samples have been fully tested, while 13 are still awaiting results. The pending outcomes could potentially raise or lower the number of confirmed infections.

Initial cases were identified in Panchmahal, where two children died after exhibiting typical Chandipura symptoms in early July. This prompted a swift rollout of intensified testing, case tracing, and sand‑fly control operations throughout the state.

Minister Pansariya said the department is maintaining a close watch on affected districts, reviewing patient travel logs, and speeding up laboratory processing. He also reminded hospitals to admit children with suspected viral encephalitis to facilities equipped with oxygen and ventilators immediately.
