The underlying mechanism is thought to involve the gut microbiome. In the meantime, nutrition experts recommend that older adults incorporate fermented dairy, fiber‑rich foods and other microbiome‑friendly choices into their diets as part of a broader strategy to maintain gut health and potentially reduce cancer risk.
