Government‑Backed Robotic Surgeries Reach 1,000 at NIMS, Expanding Access

The Telangana government announced that Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences has successfully performed 1,000 robot‑assisted surgeries, a landmark that showcases the impact of public funding on cutting‑edge healthcare.

The surgical portfolio comprises 590 urological interventions, 248 gastro‑enterology cases and 162 oncologic operations, spanning procedures from complex urinary tract reconstructions to intricate colorectal cancer resections. Age of patients ranged from infants to octogenarians, demonstrating the versatility of the robotic platform.

More than 90 % of the treatments were reimbursed fully by state‑run initiatives like Arogya Shri and the Chief Minister Relief Fund, making world‑class surgical care attainable for low‑income families. The robotic approach has been credited with enhanced operative accuracy, diminished blood loss, reduced postoperative discomfort and shorter inpatient durations.

Chief Minister A. Revante Reddy lauded the dedication of Dr. Rahul Devaraj, the senior professor in urology and renal transplantation, and the entire multidisciplinary team. Health Minister Damodara Raja Narsimha added that the milestone is proof of the government’s unwavering commitment to equitable, high‑technology medical services.
