Food safety officials halt distribution of non‑standard ghee in J&K

In a move aimed at safeguarding consumer health, the Food and Drug Administration of Jammu and Kashmir announced a blanket prohibition on the distribution and retail of ten ghee batches that did not meet prescribed safety standards. Laboratory analysis conducted by the National Food Laboratory in Ghaziabad and the Kashmir Food Testing Laboratory identified the presence of beta‑sitosterol, foreign vegetable oil, and failed the Bodoin test, indicating adulteration. The list includes popular local brands such as Dairy Mohan, Apna Dairy Milk, Milk Bite, and others across ten different batch numbers. The order mandates that food business operators, wholesale traders, and retailers cease sales immediately, report stock levels within 48 hours, and cooperate with enforcement officials to prevent any further circulation. The FDA reiterated that genuine ghee must be derived solely from milk or milk products, and any addition of non‑milk fats is prohibited.
