Five Children Treated for Possible Food Poisoning in Patiala
A private school in Patiala reported a sudden health scare on September 1, with several students experiencing nausea and vomiting. Health officials suspect food poisoning and have admitted five children to hospitals for observation and treatment. The remaining students showed only mild discomfort and were given primary care on site.
Dr. Balbir Singh, Punjab’s health minister, stated that the five admitted children are currently stable and receiving care at a Manipal Group hospital. The state’s Rajindra Hospital is also ready to accommodate any additional cases, offering parents the option of public medical services.
Investigators are focusing on the possibility that the students consumed food outside the school premises prior to falling ill. While this theory is being explored, officials emphasize that a definitive cause will only be confirmed after a comprehensive review. If a particular eatery is identified as the source, it will face a full inspection of its food handling, sanitation, and preparation standards.
The minister highlighted the importance of maintaining high hygiene standards wherever meals are prepared for children in Punjab. He urged kitchen staff to observe strict personal cleanliness, use sanitized utensils, and keep cooking areas free from contamination. He also appealed to children to wash their hands thoroughly with soap before meals, noting that such habits are essential for long‑term health. Any negligence uncovered will be met with appropriate disciplinary action.
