Fake OPD Ticket Ring Busted at South Kolkata's Government Hospital

A fraudulent operation dealing in false outpatient department tickets has been dismantled at SSKM Hospital in South Kolkata, according to police statements released on Thursday. The police arrested three suspects—identified as Asad Ali, Mohammad Shahid and Wahid Ahmed—who allegedly orchestrated a scheme that took advantage of the protracted queues at the hospital's OPD ticket counter.

The trio is accused of creating counterfeit tickets that closely resembled authentic ones and selling them at inflated rates to patients' relatives. The police intelligence department has launched a comprehensive inquiry to determine the span of the illegal activity, the methods employed for ticket forgery, and any additional collaborators.

Earlier complaints about anomalies in the issuance of OPD tickets prompted the Bhawanipur police station to start an investigation. Video footage from numerous CCTV cameras installed around the hospital helped authorities identify and apprehend the suspects.

Investigators say the perpetrators targeted families desperate for quicker access to medical services, promising expedited ticket processing while extracting excessive payments. The three individuals are currently detained and facing questioning.
