Draft Notification Calls for CCTV Surveillance Across All Medical Stores
A draft gazette notification issued on 8 September 2026 outlines a new requirement for continuous CCTV monitoring in every medical store dealing with Schedule H, H1 and X drugs. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare aims to enhance transparency and accountability throughout the pharmaceutical supply chain.
The move is intended to stop the illegal sale of restricted medicines, such as potent antibiotics, psychotropic drugs and narcotic painkillers, without a valid doctor’s prescription. By recording each transaction, authorities can quickly identify violations and take corrective action.
The amendment was first examined by the Drugs Consultative Committee, followed by a detailed review by the Drugs Technical Advisory Board, which recommended its adoption.
Public comments, suggestions and objections are being solicited from drug retailers, pharmacist bodies and citizens. Responses can be submitted in writing or emailed to the Ministry’s designated address.
