Dengue and malaria numbers fall in Gujarat; vector surveillance intensified
Gandhinagar, September 29 – Gujarat's health authorities have reported a notable decrease in the incidence of both dengue and malaria, with the latest figures showing a 39.6 percent drop in dengue and a 22 percent reduction in malaria cases compared with last year.
The decline follows a vigorous state‑level monitoring program that emphasizes early detection, rapid laboratory testing, and systematic elimination of mosquito breeding sites. Health Minister Praful Pansheria highlighted the success of these interventions during a high‑level review meeting.
A total of 42 hospitals attached to medical colleges operate dedicated testing centres. These facilities examined more than 135,000 dengue serum samples, confirming 2,099 positive results. The speed and accuracy of these labs were praised, and guidance was provided to sustain and expand testing capabilities.
The meeting also reviewed the house‑to‑house vector surveillance drive, which targets stagnant water containers and other potential mosquito habitats. The minister directed officials to strengthen the campaign, ensuring that every district and municipal area conducts thorough inspections.
Additional oversight was given to community health centers and primary health facilities, confirming that they possess sufficient fever‑screening kits, anti‑dengue medicines, and trained staff to manage suspected cases promptly.
Officials reassured the public that the disease situation remains under control and cautioned against spreading misinformation. Citizens were reminded to keep their surroundings clean, cover water storage, and employ personal protective measures against mosquito bites.
