Delhi Prepares Hospitals and Surveillance for Rising Seasonal Illnesses

New Delhi – In response to a spike in H1N1 (swine flu) and other vector‑transmitted diseases, Health Minister Dr. Pankaj Singh called an urgent high‑level meeting on August 24. The gathering, set for 2 p.m. at the Delhi Secretariat, will include senior officials from the health department.

Key discussion points will cover the spread of dengue, malaria, chikungunya and the recent surge in swine flu cases. Participants will evaluate hospital readiness, disease‑watch dashboards, and the overall preparedness of the health department to manage a possible escalation.

The briefing noted that 159 influenza cases were logged on August 20, with 114 identified as H1N1. The cumulative H1N1 tally for 2026 now reaches 1,777, while Influenza A cases have risen to 2,392, bringing the total influenza count to 2,602. Influenza B cases sit at 210, after four new cases were added on the same day.

Minister Singh is expected to seek comprehensive updates from officials on the ground, strengthen surveillance networks, and issue instructions to augment the health system's response capacity throughout the monsoon season.
