Chennai Leads State's Dengue Toll with Hundreds Hospitalised
Chennai has emerged as the epicentre of Tamil Nadu's dengue surge this monsoon season. On a single day, 156 feverish patients were admitted across the city's medical facilities, and 87 of them were later confirmed to have dengue. The city’s tally contributes significantly to the state‑wide total of 16,577 cases and nine recorded deaths as of mid‑September.
Districts such as Chengalpattu, Coimbatore, Tiruvannamalai, Krishnagiri, Salem, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Thanjavur and Viluppuram are also reporting a high volume of cases, compounding the pressure on local health services.
In response, the state government has intensified its mosquito‑control campaign, assigning more than 25,000 personnel to inspect households, eliminate breeding grounds and track fever patterns. Health Minister Arun Raj addressed journalists, acknowledging a modest rise in cases over the past week and urging citizens to avoid panic, maintain hygiene, and seek medical advice promptly if symptoms persist.
