Breast Cancer Cases Among Gujarat Women Reach 31% of All Cancers

Data released by Gujarat's health ministry shows that breast cancer now represents 31.2 percent of all cancers diagnosed in women, making it the leading cancer type in the state. The GCRI reported that the majority of the 1,541 new cases in 2025 were among women aged 41 to 60, with 469 cases in the 41‑50 age bracket and 436 cases in the 51‑60 group.

Overall, the institute treated 26,812 cancer patients in 2025, including 17,665 from Gujarat and 9,147 from neighboring states such as Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. The statistics underscore the urgent need for heightened awareness and systematic screening programs targeting middle‑aged women.

Health officials are coordinating with the National Cancer Registry Programme to refine estimates, which project around 77,205 cancer cases across Gujarat for 2024, with breast cancer retaining its dominant share.
