Bhopal Traffic Adjusted as Intern Doctors Protest Over Stipend

As intern doctors in Madhya Pradesh maintain their strike, city authorities in Bhopal have taken a series of steps to keep traffic flowing smoothly.

Police officials, led by ACP Santosh Patel, have declared that preventing inconvenience to the public is a top priority. A dedicated lane for ambulances and fire‑brigade vehicles will be kept clear throughout the protest.

To alleviate pressure on major thoroughfares, traffic has been diverted onto alternate routes and additional police forces have been posted at critical intersections.

The police have issued an advisory urging residents to review traffic updates before heading out, and to cooperate with rerouting instructions.

Meanwhile, the underlying dispute over the interns’ stipend remains unresolved. A meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla resulted in a promise to raise the stipend to Rs21,500 and a guarantee that no legal proceedings would be initiated against the demonstrators.

ABVP student leader Ketan Chaturvedi noted that while the government’s offer is positive, the final decision will require consensus from all interns.

Bhopal Collector Priyanka Mishra confirmed that law and order are being maintained, traffic moves without major snarls, and the protest stays peaceful.

In Jabalpur, Dean Dr Navneet Saxena reported that interns have suspended OPD and elective services, keeping only emergency care active, and continue to demand the stipend hike.
