Power Leak in Bengaluru Hotel Pool Kills 2, Two Injured

Two foreign nationals lost their lives after coming into contact with electric current in a swimming pool at a five-star hotel in Bengaluru, while two others were hurt during rescue efforts. The deaths have been described as suspicious, and authorities are probing the cause.

The incident happened on Friday at about 6:30 in the evening. The pool is located on the third floor of a hotel in the Halasuru area.

The deceased are Alexander Maximilian Thiess, 57, a German national, and Juraj Horvath, 45, a citizen of Slovakia.

According to police sources, the pool water carried an electric charge, and both men were fatally affected after coming into contact with it. Current is believed to have spread through the water because of a possible fault in the hotel's electrical system. Investigators are trying to establish the exact route by which electricity reached the pool.

During efforts to pull the two men from the water, American tourist Matthew DeSantis, 41, and Rahul Tiwari, 28, a lifeguard at the hotel, were injured. They had moved forward to rescue the victims, but ended up being hurt themselves.

Both injured men have been taken to Manipal Hospital. Hospital sources say their condition remains stable.

The case has prompted questions about the adequacy of electrical safety arrangements and maintenance standards at the hotel pool. Police have registered a negligence case against the hotel management following a complaint from Horvath's wife.

Preliminary findings from officials of the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited point to a possible earthing problem or another technical failure within the electrical system linked to the pool.

Investigators are reviewing the pool's electrical setup, the hotel's maintenance procedures, and whether safety measures to prevent such incidents were in place. Police are also gathering details about the rescue operation and the events that led to the deaths.

Responsibility for the incident has not yet been determined, and further investigation is ongoing. More information about the case is expected to emerge.
