Bangladesh Reports Over 1,000 New Suspected Measles Cases in 24 Hours

Health authorities in Bangladesh have recorded a surge of 1,022 new suspected measles cases within a single day, bringing the year's cumulative suspected count to 130,083. The sharp increase comes as the nation continues to grapple with an ongoing measles outbreak that has already claimed 844 lives, including four children who died in the most recent reporting period.

Laboratory testing confirmed an additional 115 cases, taking the total of confirmed infections to 16,295. Suspected measles deaths have risen to 748, while confirmed deaths remain at 96.

Since 15 March 2026, a total of 112,620 suspected patients have been admitted to hospitals. Of these, 108,283 have recovered and been released, while the remaining patients are still receiving care.

Officials emphasize the need for heightened surveillance, rapid diagnostic testing, and expanded vaccination coverage to curb the spread. The continuous influx of new suspected cases underscores the challenge of containing the outbreak.
