Ayush Ministry Highlights Mental and Physical Gains from Ushtrasana
According to recent guidance from India’s Ministry of AYUSH, Ushtrasana offers a rare combination of mental calm and physical resilience. The backward bend opens the Anahata (heart) chakra, fostering emotional openness and concentration. Simultaneously, the activation of the back, shoulder and hip flexor muscles builds core strength.
Research linked to the ministry points to improvements in eye brightness after consistent practice, attributing this to enhanced blood flow to the optic nerves. The pose also supports cardiovascular health by expanding the chest cavity, allowing deeper breaths and better oxygen exchange.
Safety guidelines stress that the pose must be done on an empty stomach and without excessive force. Individuals with chronic back pain, high or low blood pressure, or those recovering from surgery are urged to consult a healthcare professional before trying Ushtrasana. Beginners benefit from instructor supervision, and the pose is not recommended during pregnancy.
