Accelerated Build Plan for 900‑Bed Thane General Hospital Unveiled

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde chaired a high‑level review of the Thane General Hospital project on July 28, urging the administration to speed up construction and avoid any procedural delays. The ambitious plan calls for a multi‑speciality medical hub with a 900‑bed capacity, comprising a district general hospital, a women‑and‑children centre and a super‑speciality institute.

Shinde stressed that providing world‑class health infrastructure to the people of Thane and Palghar is a governmental priority and demanded that every stage of work be executed with heightened urgency. He warned that any administrative holdup will not be tolerated.

The meeting revealed that, although the building shell is complete, the absence of a finalized electricity supply is preventing the hospital from becoming operational. The deputy chief minister ordered the power connection to be cleared on a fast‑track basis.

Further instructions covered rigorous cleanliness standards for the campus, expediting the procurement of cutting‑edge medical equipment, and completing the recruitment for the 1,078 newly approved posts without delay. The single complex will house a 500‑bed main hospital, a 200‑bed women‑and‑children hospital, and a 200‑bed referral hospital, supported by super‑speciality departments such as cardiology, neurology, nephrology and oncology.

A rooftop helipad and sixteen state‑of‑the‑art operating theatres have been incorporated to ensure swift emergency response and advanced surgical care.
