Over 2.9 million breeding sites destroyed as fogging hits three‑hundred‑thousand homes

Gujarat's monsoon vector‑control drive has focused heavily on eliminating mosquito breeding habitats. More than 2.9 million potential sites—such as stagnant water collections and uncovered containers—have been cleared across the state.

Alongside habitat removal, fogging operations have been carried out in over 300,000 residences, reducing adult mosquito populations substantially. These actions are part of a coordinated effort to suppress malaria, dengue and chikungunya transmission during peak rainy months.

Health officials report that the combined approach of source eradication and chemical fogging, supported by community participation, is expected to lower case numbers dramatically. The department continues to monitor vector densities and will adjust interventions as needed.

Meanwhile, larvivorous fish have been introduced into 4,998 water‑logged locations, offering a biological control alternative that targets mosquito larvae without harming other aquatic life.
