Tushar Kapoor’s 25‑Year Journey: Rejecting Nepotism

Actor Tushar Kapoor, who turned 25 in Bollywood this July, reflected on his early career choices in a recent interview. Born to Jitendra Kapoor and sibling to media powerhouse Ekta Kapoor, he faced the classic dilemma of nepotistic advantage versus personal merit.

He recounted a decisive moment: "I told Ekta that I would never collaborate on a film that she produced. My debut would be independent of her studio." The remark reportedly saddened his sister at the time.

The narrative shifted when Ekta discovered that producer Wasu Baghani was ready to launch Tushar and that the first poster for "Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai" – a rain‑laden umbrella image without the actor’s face – had been shared with distributors ahead of its public release. She felt reassured that the project would showcase her brother positively.

When pressed about ego, Tushar emphasized principle over pride. "I never wanted my parents or sister to be the reason I got a break. I wanted my skill and hard work to define me. Genuine recognition comes when you achieve without family shortcuts," he explained.

The 2001 film, which also featured Kareena Kapoor Khan, received a warm reception, cementing Tushar’s place in the industry. This year marks the 25th anniversary of that launch.
