The highly anticipated clash between Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s ‘War 2’ and Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’ on August 14, 2025, has set the box office ablaze. Both films, touted as major releases of the year, drew massive crowds and generated impressive revenue. After a strong opening weekend, both movies experienced significant drops during the weekdays, yet both managed to surpass the Rs 200 crore mark within their first week. Early estimates for Day 9 are in, and the race for dominance continues as they enter their second weekend.
‘War 2’ saw a strong opening with Rs 52 crore on Day 1, followed by an even higher Day 2 collection of Rs 57.85 crore, an 11.25% increase. However, the collections dipped on Day 3 with Rs 33.25 crore, and slightly decreased to Rs 32.65 crore on Day 4, taking the extended weekend total close to Rs 176 crore. The film experienced a substantial fall on Day 5, earning only Rs 8.75 crore (down 73.20%), but recovered slightly on Day 6 with Rs 9 crore and Rs 5.75 crore on Day 7. Early estimates for Day 8 stood at Rs 5 crore. This brings the film’s 8-day total to Rs 204.25 crore across all languages. Despite the decline after the first weekend, ‘War 2’ has successfully crossed the Rs 200 crore mark within its initial week.
Early estimates suggest the film earned only Rs 4 crore net on Day 9 across all languages, pushing its total collection in India to Rs 208.25 crore.
‘War 2’, a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster ‘War’, premiered on August 14, 2025. It features Hrithik Roshan reprising his role as Agent Kabir after a six-year hiatus. NTR Jr. joins the franchise as Agent Vikram. Anil Kapoor and Ashutosh Rana also play key roles.
Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’ had a blockbuster opening week. The movie debuted with a massive Rs 65 crore on Day 1, driven by Tamil Nadu’s collection of Rs 44.5 crore. The Hindi version contributed Rs 4.5 crore, Telugu Rs 15.5 crore, and Kannada Rs 0.5 crore. Day 2 saw a dip of 15.77%, earning Rs 54.75 crore, followed by Rs 39.5 crore on Day 3 and Rs 35.25 crore on Day 4, taking the extended weekend total to over Rs 194 crore. The film experienced the typical Monday drop with Rs 12 crore and further decreased to Rs 9.5 crore on Day 6 and Rs 7.5 crore on Day 7.
The film added around Rs 6.25 crore on Day 8 (early estimates), pushing its 8-day total to Rs 229.75 crore across all languages. Despite the significant drops post-opening weekend, ‘Coolie’ has achieved considerable success, surpassing the Rs 200 crore mark in its first week.
According to early figures, ‘Coolie’ collected Rs 5.50 crore net on its ninth day across all languages in India, taking its overall domestic total to Rs 235.15 crore.
The plot of ‘Coolie’ centers on Deva, a former gold smuggler who now works as a coolie. He aims to reclaim his past glory by reviving his old gang using stolen technology concealed in vintage golden watches, leading to unforeseen consequences.
The cast includes Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Rachita Ram, Reba Monica John, Junior MGR, Kanna Ravi, Monisha Blessy, and Kaali Venkat. Aamir Khan will make a cameo appearance. The film is produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures.
