Udta Teer Film Review: A Comedy That Keeps Audiences Hooked

Rating: 4.5 stars

Picture this: a Pakistani intelligence operative is injured in an accident on Indian soil and loses his memory. When he recovers, he believes he is a counter-intelligence officer working for India. From this confusion, 'Udta Teer' launches a playful journey of misunderstandings, tangled predicaments and absurd circumstances.

Directed and written by Akash A. Kaushik, the film aims to make audiences laugh with its amusing story, witty lines and skilful comic timing. The background music further enhances the comedy at various moments.

The tangles in 'Udta Teer' are often strange and entertaining enough to trigger spontaneous laughter. The dialogues form the core of the storyline. The cast's comic timing and their chemistry together make scenes fun to watch. The background score lands at the right moments, complementing the humour and heightening several sequences.

Ayushmann Khurrana anchors the film, and his comic timing keeps the narrative light and engaging. His performance reinforces the funnier parts of the film. Sara Ali Khan's acting also adds to the entertainment. Many other actors slip into the comedic spirit as well. The film's dialogues are one of its major strengths, and the background score deserves credit for making the humour land in many places.

The late Mukul Dev makes a lasting impression as Azhar Maqsood. Ram Kapoor and Gulshan Grover bring their distinct styles to the story. Rahul Bose, Suhail Nayyar, Raghubir Yadav and Brijendra Kala also contribute to the film's comic universe.

Length is the one area where the film could have been stronger. The second half, in particular, feels stretched out. While the comedy and dialogues hold the viewer's attention, a few portions could have been cut down. That said, this weakness does not greatly outweigh the film's enjoyable moments.

Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain have produced 'Udta Teer', with Raunak Bajaj as co-producer. The film is made under the banners of Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment. The cast features Ayushmann Khurrana, Sara Ali Khan, Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Suhail Nayyar, the late Mukul Dev, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala and Gulshan Grover, among others. Sachin-Jigar has composed the music, while Amitabh Bhattacharya penned the songs.

'Udta Teer' is a comedy that succeeds in making audiences laugh with its entertaining premise and the comic timing of its cast. A shorter second half would have further improved the experience, but the film still delivers several moments that will have you laughing out loud. If you are after a comedy that does not take itself too seriously and simply aims to entertain, this movie is a good option.
