Tiger Shroff Car Firing: Court Grants Police Custody Till October 26
A court in Mumbai has ordered that four men arrested for allegedly firing at actor Tiger Shroff's car remain in police custody until October 26.
The Mumbai Police had asked for nine days of custody, but the court fixed the period at October 26. The four accused were brought before the Esplanade Court, also known as Killa Court.
The defence challenged the need for police custody, arguing that the investigators had not clearly established why the accused had to be kept in custody to recover information about weapons and to examine mobile phones.
Defence lawyer Ajinkya Mirgal Madhukar told the media that the accused had come to Mumbai from Delhi on transit remand. He said they were presented in court from custody, and when asked if they had any complaint against the police or wished to say anything, they responded that they had no complaints.
According to the lawyer, the court also heard that the accused had allegedly supplied weapons. However, the remand report contained no particulars about the weapons and mentioned just one pistol. There was no detail on whether the pistol was desi or foreign or what type it was.
He stressed that a pistol is a serious weapon and not something that can be handed out like a toy, adding that the defence had made this point during arguments.
The prosecution then submitted that the mobile phones of the accused had already been seized and data could be retrieved from them, so physical custody was not required. Once both sides were heard, the court approved police custody till October 26. The prosecution had sought custody till October 31.
The firing happened on October 18 at around 7 pm. Tiger Shroff was on his way home after leaving a football club when the shots were fired. The actor narrowly escaped, while his driver suffered serious injuries.
After the incident, the police began investigating and searched for the accused. So far, four people have been arrested in connection with the case.
