Suraag to Suraag 2.0: Sudesh Berry's Inspector Bharat Legacy
Few television characters from the Doordarshan era have stayed as memorable as Inspector Bharat. Sudesh Berry, who played the role in the crime thriller Suraag - The Clue, says the character defined a major part of his career and continues to connect with audiences today.
Berry, who will soon be seen in the family comedy Hey Bhagwan Bacha Le, recently reflected on how the show shaped his public image. He described the role as the best of his career so far, noting that viewers embraced the character's style and authority.
Suraag aired on DD National from June 14, 1999, until November 4, 2002, every Monday at 10 pm. The series was a suspense-driven investigative show. Each episode introduced a new murder or crime case and wrapped it up within the same episode, which kept viewers hooked week after week.
The series was directed by Gautam Adhikari and produced by Shri Adhikari Brothers Limited. Berry played Crime Branch Inspector Bharat, while Amit Kapoor played Crime Branch Sub Inspector Srivastava.
Berry also spoke about his work in the serial Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo, where he played Thakur Lohas Singh. The show, starring Ratan Rajput along with Abhishek Rawat, Mukul Harish, Richa Mukherjee, Deepika Kakkar, Aditya Lakhia, Roopa Ganguly and Sukriti Kandpal, ran for over 400 episodes before ending in February 2011.
The nostalgia has now been revived. DD National began broadcasting Suraag 2.0 on September 21, 2026, bringing Berry back as Inspector Bharat. For many viewers, the return marks a chance to revisit a series that once defined weekly television viewing.
