Sunny Deol Returns with Rajkumar Santoshie in Historical Drama

Veteran star Sunny Deol is set to share the screen with director Rajkumar Santoshie in “Bantwara 1947”, a film that delves into the emotional turmoil of the sub‑continent’s partition. Deol’s role diverges significantly from his iconic character Tara Singh in “Gadar”, presenting a fresh persona that aligns with the film’s gritty narrative.

The project attracted the attention of prominent producer Aamir Khan’s production house, which subsequently backed the venture after reviewing the script. Santoshie praised the backing, noting that the alignment of belief in the story helped accelerate production. Supporting actors such as Preeti Jinta, Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal, Abhimanyu Singh, and Karan Deol also join the ensemble, promising a powerful performance-driven ensemble. Music composer A.R. Rahman and lyricist Javed Akhtar augment the period drama with a soulful soundtrack, slated for a 14 August theatrical release.
