Sunaina Condemns Obscene AI Deepfake Circulating Online
Mumbai, October 27: Actress Sunaina, a prominent name in South Indian films, has announced that legal action will be taken against people who create AI deepfake videos. She has also warned that individuals who share such videos will not escape responsibility.
A fake AI deepfake video that uses Sunaina's face has been spreading across social media in recent days. Following the emergence of the clip, the actress has voiced strong opposition and signalled that she will approach the law.
In an Instagram note, she wrote that an AI-generated video was being circulated on social media and other online platforms. The video allegedly used artificial intelligence to attach her face to obscene content. She noted that the material was digitally created or edited to show a person who resembles her.
Sunaina said the act was an assault on her dignity, privacy and identity. In her view, it qualifies as sexual harassment and is entirely defamatory. She further stated that the act is an offence under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
The actress described herself as stunned and extremely upset by the malicious move, and strongly denounced it. She said such conduct is totally unacceptable.
Sunaina cautioned that she would begin criminal and civil proceedings against all those responsible for making, publishing or spreading the content, without issuing any further notice. Anyone who forwards it, she added, will also be held accountable.
She appealed to her well-wishers, the general public and the media not to share the content and to report it wherever it is found. Sunaina has reserved all her rights and legal remedies.
