In a momentous declaration at a Jalandhar event marking the 649th Guru Purb of Shri Guru Ravidas Ji Maharaj, popular Sufi singer and ex-BJP parliamentarian Hans Raj Hans conveyed festive greetings while firmly closing the door on his political career.
The occasion brimmed with reverence for the saint-poet who championed social justice. Hans lauded Ravidas as ‘the savior of the downtrodden who demolished barriers of prejudice and pledged Begumpura – an ideal society without high or low. Remembering Begumpura could transform into our nation’s song of unity.’
Delving into his shift, Hans confessed, ‘Politics is history for me. I’m oblivious to electoral battles now. I spent years in the fray trying to validate my path, but music is my sole passion henceforth.’
Tracing his rollercoaster political path, Hans first plunged into the arena with Akali Dal in 2009, suffering an initial electoral loss. A brief Congress affiliation in 2016 led to BJP, where his spirited support, including a Modi anthem, propelled him to victory from Delhi’s North West constituency in 2019.
The singer also voiced serious concerns over Khalistani threats preceding PM Modi’s Punjab tour, highlighting persistent regional challenges.
Guru Ravidas Jayanti not only celebrates timeless wisdom against inequality but also marks personal reinvention for figures like Hans, prioritizing art over ambition in turbulent times.
