As excitement builds for the fifth and final season of Netflix’s ‘Stranger Things,’ co-creators Ross Duffer and Shawn Levy have addressed recent reports concerning alleged on-set tensions between stars Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour. While details of specific claims remain private, the show’s creative leads emphasized their commitment to a safe and respectful production environment.
Reports circulated suggesting accusations of bullying and harassment had been made against Harbour by Brown prior to the commencement of filming for the concluding season. These claims, which did not involve sexual misconduct, reportedly led to a months-long investigation by Netflix. It was also noted that Brown was reportedly accompanied by a personal representative during production.
Despite the media speculation, both Brown and Harbour appeared in high spirits at the Season 5 premiere in Los Angeles. When questioned by reporters, Ross Duffer stated he could not comment on “personal on-set matters.” However, he strongly affirmed, “Nothing matters more than just having a set where everyone feels safe and happy.” He highlighted the decade-long working relationship with the cast, referring to them as “family.”
Shawn Levy echoed these sentiments, reinforcing the importance of fostering a comfortable and secure workplace. “You have to create a respectful workplace where everyone feels comfortable and safe, and so we did everything to build that environment,” Levy explained. He acknowledged the “noise” surrounding the allegations but reiterated that the cast and crew are viewed as a family, with respect being a fundamental principle.
Neither Netflix nor representatives for Brown or Harbour have issued official statements regarding the specific allegations. The upcoming final season is one of Netflix’s most eagerly awaited releases, bringing an end to the popular science fiction series that debuted in 2016.
