New state film policy credited for Dholi’s national recognition

Dehradun, July 18 – The Silver Lotus Award presented to the Garhwali film "Dholi" at the 72nd National Film Awards is being hailed as a direct outcome of Uttarakhand’s revamped film‑friendly framework.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami highlighted the policy’s role in nurturing talent, offering incentives such as location fee waivers, cash grants, and skill‑development workshops. He asserted that these measures have empowered local storytellers to produce cinema that resonates beyond state borders.

"Dholi’s victory demonstrates how strategic support can elevate regional narratives to the national arena," Dhami posted on X, extending congratulations to the film’s director, producers, cast and crew.

The policy also aims to preserve Uttarakhand’s linguistic diversity by encouraging productions in Garhwali and other native dialects. Since its rollout, the state has seen a noticeable rise in film‑making activity, with more projects choosing the Himalayas for shooting.

Beyond financial aid, the government has facilitated training programmes for technical crew, creating pathways for youth to enter cinematography, editing, sound design and related fields.

Dhami concluded that the award is a testament to the effectiveness of the policy and pledged to sustain and expand these initiatives, ensuring that Uttarakhand continues to nurture world‑class cinema rooted in its heritage.
