How SP Balasubrahmanyam’s Legacy Lives On, Says Jackie Shroff

Jackie Shroff reflected on the enduring impact of S.P. Balasubrahmanyam in a heartfelt social‑media message released on the singer’s death anniversary.

Sharing a snapshot taken during a recent studio session, Shroff wrote, “Your melodies remain alive within us, SPB. 4 June 1946 – 25 September 2020.” The background of the post featured the song “Hum Na Samjhe The,” a memorable number from the 1993 film *Gardiś* that SPB sang.

SPB’s voice defined an era. From youthful romances like “Aate Jaate Haste Gaaate” in *Maine Pyaar Kiya* to the soulful “Dil Deewana” in *Saajan*, his songs shaped the soundscape of Bollywood in the 80s and 90s. He also sang for stalwarts such as Salman Khan, creating iconic tracks like “Pehla‑Pehla Pyaar” and “Yeh Haseen Vadiyan.”

Beyond playback singing, the maestro wore many hats: actor, composer, dubbing artist, TV host, and film producer. His contributions earned six National Film Awards, the Padma Shri (2001), the Padma Bhushan (2011) and a posthumous Padma Vibhushan (2021).

Jackie Shroff’s tribute underscores how SPB’s artistic imprint continues to inspire new generations of singers, composers, and movie lovers across India.
