How a Simple Advertisement Launched Tanushree Chakravarty’s Film Career

Born on 6 August 1984 in Kolkata, Tanushree Chakravarty pursued Political Science at Basanti Devi College, University of Calcutta. After graduation, she entered the modeling sector with little awareness about its mechanics. In her own words, the early days were filled with confusion about casting calls, wardrobe fittings, and the contractual side of the trade.

Her breakthrough came when a regional brand producing Bangladeshi spices selected her for a televised advertisement. The spot resonated with viewers, and Tanushree’s face became instantly recognizable across West Bengal. This unexpected exposure acted as a catalyst, leading film producers to approach her for screen roles.

She accepted her first acting assignment in 2010 with "Bondhu Eso Tumi", a romantic drama that introduced her to the Bengali film audience. The following year, the drama "Uro Chithi" solidified her standing, earning her praise for natural performance and screen presence. Over the next several years she built a varied filmography, including the thriller "Bedroom" (2012), the socially relevant "Obishapto Naiti", the experimental "Window Connections", the historical drama "Buno Hans", and the hard‑hitting "Khad". These projects proved her versatility beyond the glamor‑centric roles often offered to models‑turned‑actors.

Television also benefitted from her charisma; she featured in the popular show "Didi Number 1" and hosted the lifestyle program "Sampurna". Leveraging her public profile, Tanushree ventured into hospitality by opening a restaurant in Kolkata, adding an entrepreneurial dimension to her career.

In 2021 she made a political debut, aligning with the Bharatiya Janata Party and contesting the Shyamapur constituency in West Bengal’s assembly elections. Though she did not secure a win, the experience broadened her public dimension. Currently, Tanushree continues to act while overseeing her business interests.
