Shilpa Rao Mic Cut at Mumbai Show, Husband Speaks Out
A live performance by singer Shilpa Rao at a Mumbai event has triggered a strong reaction from her husband, Ritesh Krishnan, who has come out in support of his wife after the episode.
The event was the 10th anniversary celebration of the 'Bollywood Music Project', held in Mumbai on October 24, 2026. Midway through the singer's live performance, her mic and audio system were switched off without warning.
Ritesh Krishnan later shared a note on social media, saying he had experienced anger, disappointment and helplessness. He wrote, “I was angry, disappointed and felt helpless at that moment. The hardest part was seeing someone I love and respect so much go through such a situation.”
He added, “People admire Shilpa Rao for her beautiful voice, but I know the person behind it. I know what her audience and fans mean to her, and I will never forget seeing my wife so disrespected. BMP, your PR team is working tirelessly to convince Mumbai that what it saw did not happen. Wow.”
According to the account of the incident, Shilpa Rao was thanking her audience after completing a song when she was cut short and other artists were called to the stage. The organisers said the show was well behind its schedule and the decision was made to follow venue regulations, since earlier acts had run late.
Commenting on the organisers' explanation, Ritesh Krishnan wrote, “Refusing to give a fellow artist two minutes to say goodbye to her audience was selfish, low, shameless and an utterly petty move. Thank you to everyone who supported her during this time.”
Praising his wife, he said, “Shilpa, I am deeply proud of you. Mumbai, we will be back. Your love deserves a beautiful ending, and we are grateful to you.”
Shilpa Rao had also used social media to voice her disappointment over the incident. Fans, too, have expressed their dismay online at the abrupt end to her performance.
