Shah Rukh and Gauri's Early Romance Marked by Jealousy and Ultimatums

Mumbai: The romance of Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan has long been a subject of public interest. Few are aware, however, that Shah Rukh was intensely possessive during the early stage of their relationship, a fact he later admitted himself.

The revelation came during 'Rendezvous with Simi Grewal', where veteran actress and host Simi Grewal spoke with the couple about how their relationship had begun.

Shah Rukh acknowledged his possessive nature and described himself as insecure. With a touch of humour, he said he had restricted Gauri from keeping her hair open or wearing a white shirt.

“I was very possessive and very insecure. I had told Gauri that as my girlfriend she was not allowed to keep her hair open or wear a white shirt,” Shah Rukh said.

Gauri's reply was equally candid. She said that had he not changed his behaviour, she would have left him.

Reflecting on those memories, Gauri said that as a boyfriend Shah Rukh was quite irritating, and that his thinking was flawed. She told him plainly that if he did not change himself, she would never meet him again.

Their journey started in 1984, when 18-year-old Shah Rukh met 14-year-old Gauri at a friend's party in Delhi. He was initially shy and nervous in her company, though the two slowly grew closer.

Their bond saw many ups and downs, including a period when they separated. Eventually, they came back together and decided to stay united.

Following several hurdles, Shah Rukh and Gauri tied the knot on October 25, 1991. The wedding blended Hindu rituals with a nikah ceremony, reflecting respect for both faiths.

Today, the couple are parents to three children. Aryan Khan was born in 1997, Suhana Khan in 2000, and AbRam Khan in 2013.
