Scam 2024: Vidya Malvade Shares Personal Cyber Fraud Experience
Mumbai, October 30: Ahead of the release of the micro-drama Scam 2024: The Digital Arrest Story, actress Vidya Malvade has opened up about a cyber fraud that affected someone close to her. She plays Priya in the series.
Malvade said she was drawn to the project because the story feels timely and her character has been well written. She observed that fraud cases are reported almost every day. Her own home was affected by a similar crime, which made the series feel personal.
The actress explained that her househelp, who has been working for her for 15 years, was cheated about one and a half to two years ago. On an ATM visit, the househelp failed to withdraw money even though her bank account had balance. She returned home carrying her passbook.
The family first suspected a forgotten detail or a card issue. But after checking the passbook, they found that the entire amount had been withdrawn. Scammers had taken the money in two rounds.
Because those transactions were 10 to 15 days old, the househelp was unaware of what had happened. She may not have paid attention to the bank's alerts. Malvade said the discovery, when it came, was very shocking.
The series also features Pratik Sehajpal as Vicky Mandal and Vineet Raina as suspended officer Raj Thakur. It is produced by Small Town Boys and directed by Alok Sharma.
The drama is based on the growing threat of digital arrest and cyber fraud, and the fear these crimes create. Malvade plays Priya Sharma, a working woman who falls prey to a digital arrest scam.
