Following the release of the trailer for Vivek Agnihotri’s film ‘The Bengal Files,’ which focuses on the communal violence in Bengal in 1946, actor Saswata Chatterjee, who plays a key role in the film, has distanced himself from the project. When asked about the controversies surrounding the film, Chatterjee stated, ‘I am just an actor. I liked the character, so I did it. I am not a historian to talk about history because that would be akin to distorting history.’ He also added that if people feel the trailer is inaccurate and disrespects Bengal’s history, they can seek legal recourse. Chatterjee emphasized that he wasn’t given the complete narrative during filming and only knew his specific role and character. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on September 5, 2025, and is 3 hours and 20 minutes long, featuring actors like Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, and Darshan Kumar. There is uncertainty about whether the film will even be released in Bengal.
