Sanjay Gupta's Death Leaves Unfinished Conversations, Says Kashyap
Mumbai, November 1: The death of filmmaker Sanjay Gupta has left a void in the film fraternity, with Anurag Kashyap among those mourning his loss. Kashyap said that the passing of his friend of around 25 years had left many stories forever incomplete.
Taking to Instagram, Kashyap shared a vintage photograph featuring himself and Sanjay. The post reflected on their early association and the bond they had shared over the years, even though they had drifted apart in recent times.
Kashyap recalled that Sanjay had launched his production company, White Feather Films, as a homage to John Woo. Woo was one of Sanjay's most important sources of inspiration, and Kashyap said he was present when the banner was created.
In an emotional note, Kashyap described the news as both shocking and heartbreaking. He wrote that Sanjay's departure so soon was unbearably sad and that several conversations between them remained open. "Some things were left unfinished, and some endings were yet to come, which was always going to happen one day," he wrote. "But this was not the way you should have gone, Gups."
Kashyap added that he had believed Sanjay had the will to beat a prolonged illness yet again. He noted that Sanjay had defeated it once before and seemed like a person capable of overcoming it repeatedly.
He also remembered how Sanjay had been helpful to him in the past, especially in finding DVDs of films he wanted to watch. Sanjay used to tell him exactly where and how to get them, Kashyap said.
Closing his tribute, Kashyap expressed sympathy for Sanjay's family, especially his wife Anu and their children. He prayed for their courage during this difficult time and wished peace for his departed friend.
