Sanjay Gupta Cremated in Mumbai, Industry Mourns Loss
Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta was laid to rest on Saturday at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Mumbai. The final farewell drew a large number of figures from Bollywood, who came to mourn the death of the respected director.
The funeral was attended by actor Abhishek Bachchan, director Rakesh Roshan and actor Fardeen Khan. Actors Manoj Bajpayee and Rajat Bedi, along with producers Ashok Pandit and Milap Zaveri, were also seen at the cremation ground.
Actors Rohit Roy, Ronit Roy and Gulshan Grover paid their tributes as well during the filmmaker's final journey.
Milap Zaveri broke down with emotion on reaching Gupta's home. He has decided to dedicate his next project to the late filmmaker, whom he considered his 'godfather', 'friend' and 'brother'.
In a heartfelt post on social media, Zaveri recalled his final meeting with Gupta ten days ago. He said he had shared the title of his upcoming film, and Gupta had jumped with joy, recalling that his own father had produced an original film with that name. “The title and this film will all be yours. I love you, Guruji, and I always will,” he wrote.
According to reports, Gupta suffered severe head injuries after a fall on Friday night and lost a considerable amount of blood. His wife and two sons were at home but were sleeping at the time, and the news only emerged on Saturday morning.
Gupta's notable filmography includes 'Kaante' (2002), 'Musafir' (2004), 'Zinda' (2006), 'Shootout at Wadala' (2013) and 'Kaabil' (2017).
