14 Years After Passing, Ritesh Deshmukh Says His ‘Exile’ Continues

Actor Ritesh Deshmukh observed the 14th death anniversary of his father, veteran politician Vilasrao Deshmukh, with a poignant Instagram post on August 14. The post featured an old family photograph and a caption that read, “It’s been 14 years since you left, but my exile has not ended.”

His wife, actress Jenelia Deshmukh, liked the tribute and added a broken‑heart emoji, reflecting the family's shared sorrow.

Vilasrao Deshmukh was a stalwart of Maharashtra’s political arena, holding the chief ministerial office and numerous other portfolios. In 2011, doctors identified a severe liver disease that required continuous treatment. By August 2012, his condition deteriorated, and he was admitted to a Mumbai hospital where examinations revealed extensive liver and kidney damage.

He was flown to Chennai for advanced care and an attempted liver transplant, but on August 14, 2012, multiple organ failures led to his death.

Ritesh, who was profoundly impacted by the loss, gradually refocused on his film career. Over the years he has earned recognition across a spectrum of roles—from light‑hearted comedies to weighty dramas. His recent projects include the movie “Dhamal 4” and hosting the second season of the OTT thriller “Lock Up,” affirming his continued presence in the entertainment industry.
