Odisha’s music fraternity is in shock following the demise of celebrated composer Abhijeet Majumdar on Sunday. At just 54, the music maestro succumbed to complications from long-standing illnesses, leaving behind a treasure trove of unforgettable Odia melodies that defined an era.
For several months, Majumdar battled critical conditions including high blood pressure, thyroid issues, and advanced liver problems at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. A sudden health decline Saturday night necessitated ventilator support, but valiant medical efforts proved futile.
The news triggered an outpouring of grief online. Fellow artists shared heartfelt memories, underscoring his irreplaceable contributions. BJD’s media coordinator Lenin Mohanty wrote on X, ‘Abhijeet Majumdar’s departure is an irreplaceable void in Odisha’s music landscape. His tunes will echo eternally.’
Entering the spotlight in the 2000s, Majumdar revolutionized Odia soundtracks with accessible yet profound compositions. When regional cinema experimented boldly, his music struck a perfect chord with audiences. Iconic tracks from ‘Love Story’, ‘Sister Sridevi’, ‘Golmal Love’, ‘Sundargarh Ra Salman Khan’, and ‘Shriman Surdas’ still dominate playlists. His portfolio boasts over 700 compositions across movies, albums, and local ventures.
Majumdar leaves his wife Ranjeeta and a son to grieve. As fans reminisce, his harmonious legacy promises to inspire future generations in Odia entertainment.
