Remembering Wajid Khan: Legacy of a Versatile Music Director and Singer
Wajid Khan entered the world on October 7, 1977, in the culturally rich city of Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Surrounded by a father who excelled at tabla and an uncle celebrated for classical vocals, he absorbed musical nuances from childhood.
Alongside his brother Sajid, he formed the acclaimed composer pair ‘Sajid‑Wajid’. Their debut came with Salman Khan’s “Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya” in 1988, after which they delivered hit soundtracks for “Dabangg”, “Partner”, “Veer”, and “Ek Tha Tiger”.
As a playback singer, Wajid’s powerful timbre gave life to songs like “Hood Hood Dabangg”, “Mera Hi Jalwa”, “Soni De Nakhre”, and “Panda Ji City”. He married Komal Rukh Khan in 2003, and they were parents to two daughters. Wajid’s sudden passing on June 1, 2020, at 42, left a void, yet his timeless compositions keep his spirit alive.
