Remembering S. Janaki: Shivani Narayanan’s Emotional Tribute Video

Shivani Narayanan, known for her television roles and recent stint on Bigg Boss, posted a moving tribute to playback maestro S. Janaki on Instagram on July 15. In the short video she sings excerpts from Janaki’s timeless repertoire, openly stating that she has “no formal training, only a heartfelt respect for the South’s nightingale.”

She described how Janaki’s ethereal voice shaped her childhood perception of music, prompting her to attempt the difficult task of reproducing the singer’s flawless vocal dynamics. “It is a small, sincere effort born out of love and respect,” Shivani wrote.

The actress also reflected on the loss, saying that while the world has lost a “golden voice,” Janaki’s melodies will continue to reverberate. The late S. Janaki, a four‑time National Award winner, left an indelible legacy of more than 48,000 songs in multiple Indian languages. She died at 88 after being admitted to Apollo BGS Hospital on July 11 and experiencing repeated cardiac arrests.
