Ramayana Stars Reflect on Duty, Devotion and Self-Discovery
Ahead of the release of 'Ramayana', actors Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi have spoken about what it means to play two of the most revered figures in Indian tradition. Ranbir is essaying Lord Ram, and Sai Pallavi is playing Mata Sita.
To promote the film, the duo appeared on the Diwali special episode of 'Kaun Banega Crorepati', the popular quiz show hosted by Amitabh Bachchan. During the episode, both described their roles as a serious commitment.
Ranbir explained his thoughts after receiving the offer. 'When this role came to me, I knew it was a huge responsibility, not just a part to perform. My first reaction was fear. I questioned whether I was fit for this character and whether I could carry it. Shri Ram is a source of faith for millions of people.'
He said the fear gradually gave way to gratitude. 'I realised that at this point in my life, I was getting a character that could help me become a better artist and a better person.'
Ranbir also spoke about the birth of his daughter, Raha, which came during the same period. He said he considers that and the chance to work on this film as blessings. 'I was given the opportunity to become a better human being, and I got to understand the Ramayana in depth while working with wonderful people.'
He closed his remarks with a reflection on humility. 'Sir, it is not possible for us to become like Lord Shri Ram. But learning from his ideals is an important lesson for every one of us.'
Sai Pallavi described a different mindset while preparing for her role. She said she preferred not to overanalyse her part. 'Normally, I think about what I can do for a character. But while playing Mata Sita, the question in my mind was what I would get from this role, what knowledge I would gain, and what I would learn from it.'
She said she wanted her mind to stay open and transparent. 'Whatever I know about Mata Sita, I wanted to approach it with an open heart. I did not want to decide things beforehand. I prayed and said, Maa, please be kind to me so that I can play this role. With that feeling, I dedicated myself to the part.'
The conversation offers a glimpse into how the lead actors are approaching a project that carries deep cultural and spiritual significance.
